DNA testing is also referred to as genealogical DNA test, it is used in genetic genealogy that looks at specific locations of an individual’s genome in order to verify a person’s or ancestral genealogical relationships, this gets one to know about the ethnic mixture of an individual. DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid, which is made of two polynucleotide chains that are coiled around each other to form a double helix carrying genetic instructions of an individual and gives us knowledge about the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known species and viruses. Forensic scientists can use the DNA sources present in your blood, saliva, skin, hair, and semen which is found at a crime scene to identify a matching DNA of an individual, such as a preparatory. This process has formally termed DNA profiling or DNA testing.

Genetic testing was first used in a criminal case in 1984 by a British geneticist and first used in forensic science and the potential to now obtain genetic matching on the samples which were available on the crime scene. Individuals charged with serious crimes may be required to provide a sample of DNA test for analysis and identification purposes. DNA profiling is also used to identify victims of mass casualty incidents successfully and positively via matching DNA with family members of the victims.
