How your paternity test results can be wrong?

Paternity test results

According to a survey, between 14 and 30 percent of Paternity test results are claimed to be fake. There are many fraud companies, which don’t have enough resources and dupe the clients.

There are also other reasons as mentioned below:

  • Tampered tests

Test tampering is the most common way of DNA fraud. If the mother of the child or any other interested person gains access to it, he/she can do manipulation to produce positive results when the true results would be negative.

  • Lab error produces a false result

Also, errors made by the lab can also lead to inaccurate results. It is very rare, but it does happen and may cause either false-positive or false-negative results. If the lab is not AABB accredited, then you should avoid testing from this type of lab.

  • Paternity candidates may be related

There is also a possibility that the father and the test subject are related. For example, a child is fathered by Denver and the mother claims Denver’s brother Jack to be the father, Jack may test positive for paternity even if he never had any relationship with the child’s mother. Situations like these should be carefully considered.

  • DNA mutations can complicate test results

This case is the rarest of all possibilities. A DNA mutation can be the reason for an incorrect paternity test. There is no issue as mutations occur constantly, but if sperm contains a mutated filament of DNA, then the child’s DNA can be different from the father’s.  You know that the older a man gets, the more mutations his sperm will carry.
